Incoterms or International Commercial Terms are a set of international sales terms widely used around the world. They are used to divide the costs and responsibilities of the transaction between the buyer and seller, and reflect state-of-the-art transportation practices. They correspond closely with the United Nations Convention on Contracts for the International Sale of Goods.<\/p>

Incoterms deal with issues related to the delivery of the goods from the seller to the buyer. This includes the transportation of the goods, export and import customs clearance responsibilities, who pays for what and who bears the risk for the condition of the goods at different locations within the transportation process. Incoterms are always used with a geographical location and do not deal with the transfer of ownership.<\/p>

They are drawn up and published by the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC). As of 1 January 2011, the eighth edition, Incoterms 2010, takes effect. Two new Incoterms rules in Group D – DAT and DAP – have replaced DAF, DES, DEQ and DDU. The number of Incoterms has therefore been reduced from 13 to 11.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

FCA. Free Carrier (named place): the seller delivers the goods, cleared for export, into the custody of the first carrier (named by the buyer) at the named place. This term is suitable for all modes of transport, including air, rail, road and containerised \/ multimodal transport.\nFAS. Free alongside ship (named port of loading): the seller must place the goods alongside the ship at the named port. The seller must clear the goods for export; this changed in the 2000 version of Incoterms. Suitable for sea transport only.\nFOB. Free on Board (named port of loading): the classic maritime trade term, Free on Board: the seller must load the goods on board the vessel nominated by the buyer, with the cost and risk divided at the ship’s rail. Cost, Insurance and Freight (named port of destination): exactly the same as CFR except that the seller must, in addition, arrange and pay for insurance for the buyer. Sea transport only.\nCPT. Carriage Paid To (named place of destination): the general \/ containerised \/ multimodal equivalent of CFR. The seller pays for carriage to the named point of destination, but the risk is transferred when the goods are handed over to the first carrier.\nCIP. Carriage and insurance paid to (named place of destination): the containerised \/ multimodal transport equivalent of CIF.
